NOTES ON ISAAC, ESAU & JACOB

Abraham and Sarah had a son named Isaac. Abraham did not want Isaac to marry a Canaanite. The servant went to find a wife for Isaac and found Rebekah. The servant gave Rebekah 2 gold bracelets and one gold ring. Isaac prayed so that Rebekah would have a child. Rebekah became pregnant with twins who wrestled within the womb.

The Lord told Rebekah not to worry, that 2 nations were within her. She gave birth to a hairy reddish boy they named Esau. And the second one called Jacob.

Esau, the hunter, was his father’s favorite Jacob hung around the tent and was his mother’s favorite

One day Esau came home from hunting feeling very hungry One day Esau came home from hunting feeling very hungry. He asked Jacob for some of the stew he was making. Jacob said he could have some for the price of his birthright (inheritance). Esau sold his birthright.

Jacob tricked Isaac into giving him Esau’s blessing Jacob tricked Isaac into giving him Esau’s blessing. He covered his arms with animal fur and made his father a dish that Esau usually makes. The deception was Rebekah’s idea.

When Isaac realized the mistaken identity he began to shake.

Esau wants to kill Jacob. Rebekah sends Jacob away to her brother, Laban to escape Esau and find a wife.

Jacob meets Rachel at the well Jacob meets Rachel at the well. When he realizes who she is, the daughter of Laban, he gives her a kiss hello.

Jacob wants to marry Rachel Jacob wants to marry Rachel. Laban says he can after he works for 7 years. Rachel is the mother of Joseph and Benjamin. She dies giving birth to Benjamin. Joseph and Benjamin are the youngest of the 12 sons.

Jacob is tricked into marrying the older sister Leah. When Jacob finds out he has been tricked Laban says he could marry Rachel for another 7 years work.

Jacob had 12 sons and 1 daughter with his four wives.

God promised Jacob “ Land, Many descendents And to be a blessing to all nations. Jacob wrestled with God and God changed his name to Israel. When Jacob went to visit Esau, Esau brought 400 men with him.
