Tell the story of Jacob stealing Esau’s birthright.
Why would Esau have received the blessing (if he had not been tricked).
Why was the blessing so important?
Do you think it was Jacob or Esau’s descendents who became the Israelites (Hebrews)?
Do you think Jacob did the right thing?
What evidence is there that God knew beforehand that Jacob would get the birthright.
Do you think God punished Jacob for what he did? If so, how could he have done this. If not, why not.

What do you notice happening each time people go against God’s will?

When Rebekah gave birth, indeed there were twins in her womb. The first one came out red all over and like a hairy garment, and they named him Esau. Then his brother came out with his hand grabbing Esau’s heel, and they named him Jacob.

Esau said, ‘Look, I am about to die! What good is an inheritance to me?’ And Jacob replied, ‘First swear an oath to me.’  

14. So Esau swore to Jacob an oath and transferred his inheritance, and then Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew.
