What is the Bible?

What’s in a Name? What does the name “Bible” mean? Greek word Biblos – common word for book, scroll, or roll But is the Bible just a book?

Nature of the Bible: What is it? Ancient Library – a collection of different documents and books put together in one codex A religious text – a collection of documents and books dealing with spiritual matters for a specific group or groups A Historical/Pseudo-Historical book – a collection of accounts both historical and pseudo-historical unified by editors with an agenda over time Something far greater than all this…

What I Affirm (Recognize as True) I affirm that the Bible is Inspired – but more than that… (2 Peter 1:21) I affirm that the Bible is Authentic – but more than that… I affirm that the Bible is Sufficient – but more than that… I affirm that the Bible is Authoritative – but more than that… I affirm that the Bible is Inerrant – but more than that… (Proverbs 30:5-6) I affirm that the Bible is True – but more than that… (Proverbs 30:5-6) I affirm that the Bible is Theopneustos, meaning God-breathed (2 Tim. 3:16) I affirm that the Bible is God’s self-revelation, it is His work, according to His plan, for His glory.
