I Can identify how China rebuilt after years of war.

China Rebuilds AD 220 Han Dynasty ends. 300 years with no central gov’t. Warlords ruled local territories. Nomads attack Northern China. China lost control of their neighboring lands (Korea)

The Sui AD 581 General Wendi declared himself Emperor China unified under 1 emperor. Son Yandgi tried to expand China – defeated. Yangdi repaired the Great wall and rebuilt Changan Yangdi built the Grand Canal. Connected the Huang He and Chang Jiang Rivers. Helped Trade. Yangdi taxed farmers – farmers revolted, Yangdi killed.

Tang Dynasty AD 618 – Yangdi’s general becomes emperor. Started the Tang dynasty that lasted 300 years. Tang rulers restored the Central government. Taizong – powerful emperor. Civil Service exams return. AD 600’s Empress Wu. Only woman emperor in China. Wu, powerful leader strengthened military and gov’t.

Growth and Trade Tang rulers expanded their rule to Tibet and took control of the Silk Road Trade made the cities wealthy – Changan became the World’s largest city. Sold goods from far away. Turks took control of Silk Road. China econ. suffers. Farmers revolted, Tang rule fell in AD 907. New kind of rice that could grow in poor soil and improved irrigation methods led to population growth

The Song Dynasty After the Tang Dynasty – China had military rulers. AD 960 – One general founded the Song Dynasty. Song ruled from AD 960 – AD 1279. Time of economic prosperity and culture. Song – lacked military forces. Government moved to Hangzou for protection.
