Presentation transcript:

This is Jeopardy Punnett Squares To make this game… First think of five review categories and five questions for each category. Add the categories to the top of the table in slide 2. Place your questions according to the categories into the slides. For example…C1-200 is the question for Category 1 worth 200 points. C5-400 is the question for Category 5 worth 400 points. Place a final jeopardy question in the Final Jeopardy box. Test your slide show. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at lorinsomerlot@mac.com or lsomerlot@new-albany.k12.oh.us

Category No. 1 Category No. 2 Category No. 3 Category No. 4 No. 5 100 200 300 400 500 To play the game. Divide you class into teams. If you have bells or some other way of emulating ringing in your answers, knock yourself out! The contestant chooses a category and a point value. Click on their choice and you will advance to the associated slide. Click on the slide to reveal the answer. Once the contestant has stated the question click on the slide again to reveal the question. Click BACK to return to the Categories Slide. The first contestant from team 1 goes first then I alternate to the next team. Final Jeopardy

C1-100-The answer is… What was the name (first & last) of the monk that came up with the Laws of Inheritance? Gregor Mendel Back

C1-200-The answer is… This is the first generation that is purebred in Mendel’s crosses. P generation Back

C1-300-The answer is… These are chemical factors (or regions of DNA) that determine traits. genes Back

C1-400-The answer is… When Mendel crossed a short plant with a tall plant, the F1 generation were what phenotype? tall Back

C1-500-The answer is… What principle states that one allele shows the phenotype while the other remains hidden (or masked)? Mendel’s Law of Dominance Back

C2-100-The answer is… What type of crosses examine two gene pairs simultaneously? Dihybrid crosses Back

C2-200-The answer is… Punnett squares use this to predict offspring outcomes. Think: What is the _______ that offspring will be… Probability Back

C2-300-The answer is… Organisms that have two of the same allele are called Homozygous Back

C2-400-The answer is… What is the genotypic and phenotypic ratio for a heterozygous monohybrid cross? 1:2:1-genotypic 3:1 - phenotypic Back

C2-500-The answer is… What law states that traits separate without influencing each other? Law of independent assortment Back

C3-100-The answer is… This is an alternate form of a gene. allele Back

C3-200-The answer is… How many allele combinations can be formed from SsRR. 2 Back

C3-300-The answer is… If a pea plant with RrYy is crossed with one that is RrYY, how many phenotypes are expected? 2 Back

C3-400-The answer is… What kind of dominance is represented when yellow and blue make green?. Incomplete Back

C3-500-The answer is… What is the name of sex cells? Remember: these cells only have one allele for any given trait. GAMETES Back

C4-100-The answer is… A black chicken and a white chicken produce speckled chicks. What is this type of inheritance? Codominance Back

C4-200-The answer is… What type of non-Mendelian traits are described by many genes controlling one trait? Phenotypes occur in continuous variation-like skin tone. Polygenic inheritance Back

C4-300-The answer is… What pattern of non-Mendelian genetics is present in this flower? codominance Back

C4-400-The answer is… What term describes the observable physical characteristics of an organism? phenotype Back

C4-500-The answer is… What is one example of a multiple allele system presented in class? Fur in rabbits or human ABO blood type. Back

C5-100-The answer is… What is the phenotypic ratio of a dihybrid heterozygous cross? 9:3:3:1 Back

C5-200-The answer is… An organism’s gametes have ____ the number of chromosomes as somatic (body) cells do. half Back

C5-300-The answer is… Traits that are said to be sex-linked are found on which chromosomes? X or Y Back

C5-400-The answer is… In a dihybrid cross of two heterozygous parents, what is the probability of offspring being homozygous recessive for both traits? Pr(1/16) Back

C5-500-The answer is… What is the difference between self pollination and cross pollination? Self – fertilized by the same plant Cross – 2 sets of genetic info are crossed (different plants) Back

Final Jeopardy In a dihybrid cross of two heterozygous parents, what is the probability of offspring being dominant for one trait and recessive for the other? Pr(6/16) OR Pr(3/8) Back End Game
