Thompson Family Genogram & Ecomap Data Mary: is a 21 year old single parent. She is on welfare, gets WIC, AID, Food stamps, and Medicaid. She lives in a trailer park in a semi-rural southwest community. The trailer park was formerly a toxic dump site. Mary has a history of multiple STDs. She smokes one PPD. She as three children. Mary is Baptist. She is working on her GED. The father of her baby drives her to night school or she takes the bus. She does not own a car. She goes to the Circle K a short walk away to get cigarettes. Children: 8 month old male baby. Two other children: girls aged 2 & 5 years. The five year old is in a day care program and is starting school in the Fall. The father of the baby continues to be involved with the family and sometimes stays overnight on weekends. He is a part-time gas station attendant and brings money sporadically. The father of the two girls is a suspected drug dealer.

Genogram/Ecomap Data Cont. Grandmother: Alma is the 36 year old grandmother (she was a teenage mother herself) lives in the same trailer park with a 12 year old daughter who has Down’s Syndrome. She cares for her grandchildren and some other children in the trailer park each day. The grandmother is hypertensive and obese. She and her daughters watch “the soaps” regularly. She was not married to Mary’s father and they do not have contact with him. Community: Threat of conflict between rival gangs in the area.

Thompson Family EcoMap Negatively Attached Thompson Family: Community: Violence from rival gangs threaten safety of family. As well, children are exposed to possible violent crimes and bad influences/temptations are very accessible putting children at risk for joining or partaking in these activities when older. Mary Habits Smokes1 PPD which puts her at an increase risk of lung cancer and children are exposed to second-hand smoke which could lead to respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, etc.. For the children later down. Multiple STDs which puts Mary at risk for possible life –threatening conditions such as cervical cancer.

EcoMap Cont. Moderately Attached Thompson Family Mary Housing Trailer park which was built over old toxic dump site. This puts the family at an increase risk of exposure to carcinogens. Health Care Currently on Medicaid allows basic health care for children and self Mary Education In progress to complete her GED. This will give her the options to apply for better jobs, financially provider for her children better and possibly purchase a car so she can drive herself and kids, instead of being dependent on the babies father or the bus. The 5 yr old daughter beginning school in the Fall.

EcoMap Cont. Mary Religion Moderately Attached (cont.) Mary Religion Mary is a Baptist. (unknown how actively involved in church). Relationship Status The father of the baby currently works part-time at a gas station, he helps provide transportation for Mary to her night classes, occasionally stays over on weekends and gives money to Mary sporadically. The father of the 2 and 5 year old is a “suspected drug dealer” and not actively involved with his children nor providing any financial support at this time.

EcoMap Cont. Moderately Attached (cont.) Children Child Care/ Education: 5 year old attends day care regularly. This provides a stable, routine environment for the children however does add a financial expense for Mary. In the fall, the 5 year old daughter will begin attending school. The 8th month old and the 2 year old are cared for sometimes during the day by their grandmother who lives in trailer park as well.

EcoMap Strongly Attached Mary Alma Financial Aid Occupation Mary and children are completely dependent on income provided by the government programs Alma Occupation Currently keeps her grandchildren and other children from the park.
