Child Soldiers By: Danylo

In which countries are child soldiers used? Evidence suggests that child soldiers are active in at least 14 countries: Afghanistan, Burma, Central African Republic, Chad, Colombia, DR Congo, India, Iraq, Philippines, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Thailand and Yemen.

How many child soldiers are their? 250,000 children are thought to be involved in armed conflict. Some estimates put the figure as high as 300,000. It is thought that 40% of child soldiers are girls.

How are child soldiers recruited? Many are recruited by force – stolen from their families and forced to fight. In some cases children are made to kill their relatives so they can never return home. Others join voluntarily, driven by poverty and the hope of a regular meal.

How are girls used? It is estimated that 40% of all child soldiers are girls. They are often used as non-combatant 'wives' (sex slaves) of the male combatants.

Africans protesting against child soldiers

Just a way of making life harder Children who are poor, displaced from their families, have limited access to education, or live in a combat zone are more likely to be forcibly recruited.

What is Canada doing to stop this conflict? In order to stop children fighting in war Canada is making websites for people to donate, sponser or buying and sending aid to countries with this conflict.

What the Catholic Church is doing to stop the conflict? DONATE

My point of view on this topic I think that catholic churches should put more effort into donating. I also think that kids in Canada are very lucky to have education, food and every thing that child soldiers don’t have. Children should also be thankful for everything they have and shouldn’t be complaining when they get something that child soldiers don’t have.
