Welcome to Georgia!!!! By: Jasmine Smith

Georgia is on your mind.... Known as the Peach State because georgia produces plentiful peaches Capital of Georgia is Atlanta Bordering states are: Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina. Population (2012) 9,921,585 Fun fact: Georgia is the 24th largest state in the USA

Georgia has 5 habitats. Each habitat is unique in its own way: A habitat is a natural home or environment for organisms (plants and animals). Georgia has 5 habitats. Each habitat is unique in its own way: Mountains Marsh/Swamps Coastal Plains Piedmont Atlantic Ocean/Coast

Blue Ridge Mountains Piedmont Coastal Plain Coast/Atlantic Ocean Swamps and Marshes

Mountains Located in northern Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains and Appalachian stand this habitat Plants: Cherokee Rose (state flower),Azalea Animals: deer, bats, racoon, black bears, bobcats

Piedmont I live in this habitat. It is also where our capital, Atlanta is located. red clay very hilly Plants: pine trees, oak trees, hickory trees Animals: Opossums, squirrels, ducks, owls

Coastal Plains flat plains good for farming located in the southern part of Georgia Plants: peanuts, cotton (grown) Live Oak trees Animals: armadillos, deer, rattlesnakes

Coast Includes sandy beaches and barrier islands. The coast lies on the southeastern border along the Atlantic Ocean. Plants: sea oats and morning glories Animals: ghost shrimp, sea gulls, herons Atlantic Ocean The Atlantic Ocean is the largest body of water in the world. It is made up of salt water. Plants: seaweed, seagrass Animals: Shrimp, tarpon, redfish, sea trout

Swamps and Marshes The Okefenokee Swamp lies in this habitat. It is located in the southeastern part of Georgia. A swamp is an area of land covered in still or slow-moving water, with plants growing in and around it. Plants: Cypress trees, cattails and water lilies Animals: Alligators, marsh rabbits, otters, frogs, mosquitoes

Where would I live? I think you should live in the Coastal habitat. I like the coast because it is close to a beach. I like Jekyll Island also. This is an island located in this habitat too. I think this habitat will be a great transition for you and your family. It is also not that far from Florida.
