Approaches to Learning (ATL) This presentation can be used to introduce global context in relation to the personal project

ATL: Tools for learning ATL skills provide a solid foundation for learning independently and with others, demonstrating learning, and reflecting on the process of learning. They help students to become more autonomous, strategic and self-motivated and ultimately prepare students for responsible participation in local and global contexts. Students will demonstrate how they have met the objectives through their presentation or report at the end of the project. They will be expected to communicate clearly, accurately and appropriately, utilizing communication, organization and reflection as ATL skills.

Self management: Organization, Affective, Reflective Managing time and tasks effectively Managing state of mind (Re)considering the process of learning; choosing and using ATL skills Plan short- and long-term assignments; meet deadlines Mindfulness Identify strengths and weaknesses of personal learning strategies (self-assessment) Set goals that are challenging and realistic Perseverance Try new ATL skills and evaluate their effectiveness Plan strategies and take action to achieve personal and academic goals Resilience What factors are important for helping me learn well? ATL description: How can students demonstrate organizational skills? How can students manage their own state of mind? How can students be reflective?

Research: Information literacy, Media literacy Finding, interpreting, judging and creating information Access information to be informed and inform others Make connections between various sources of information Evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on their appropriateness to specific tasks Create references and citations, use footnotes/endnotes and construct a bibliography according to recognized conventions Interacting with media to use and create ideas and information Locate, organize, analyse, evaluate, synthesize and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media (including digital social media and online networks) Seek a range of perspectives from multiple and varied sources Compare, contrast and draw connections among (multi)media resources ATL description: How can students demonstrate information literacy? Thinking: Critical, Creative, Transfer Analysing and evaluating issues and ideas Generating novel ideas and considering new perspectives Using skills and knowledge in multiple contexts Gather and organize relevant information to formulate an argument Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products or processes Apply skills and knowledge in unfamiliar situations Evaluate evidence and arguments Create original works and ideas; use existing works and ideas in new ways Make connections between subject groups and disciplines Identify obstacles and challenges Practise flexible thinking: develop multiple opposing, contradictory and complementary arguments Combine knowledge, understanding and skills to create products or solutions ATL description: How can students think critically?
