Problem Solving

Three-Step Approach Analyze – What is important, what can be tossed Calculate – Plug in the numbers and solve Evaluate – Does the answer make sense? If not, recheck your info and make sure you are using correct units

Conversion factors The number on top (numerator) is equal to the bottom (denominator)

Dimensional Analysis Way to analyze a problem using the units Example How many meters are there in 75.6 km?

Complex units Measurement expressed as a ratio of two units (i.e. m/s) Example Convert 75 mi/hr into m/s

Continued Solve The density of lead is 11.35 g/cm3. What is the density of lead in kg/m3?

Continued Solve Convert 213 cm into feet
