A Parade of Four-Sided Polygons Quadrilaterals: A Parade of Four-Sided Polygons 6.3.2.3 Develop and use formulas for the sums of the interior angles of polygons by decomposing them into triangles

I can… Classify quadrilateral by their angles and sides Find missing angles of a quadrilateral Self Assessment 5- I can do it without help & teach others. 4- I can do this with no help, but I don’t know if I can explain it. 3- I can do this with a little help. 2- I can do this with a lot of help! 1- I don’t have a clue.

A closed figure with 4 sides and 4 angles Quadrilaterals A closed figure with 4 sides and 4 angles

Quadrilaterals There are many different types of quadrilaterals. We identify quadrilaterals using their sides and angles. Side Angle

Let’s Review… All polygons are made up of line segments and angles. The line segments that create quadrilaterals will be parallel, perpendicular, OR intersecting. The adjacent sides of this quadrilateral are perpendicular. The adjacent sides of this quadrilateral are intersecting. The opposite sides of this quadrilateral are parallel.

Let’s Review… The angles that make up polygons will be right angles, acute angles, or obtuse angles. The angle that makes up this vertex of this quadrilateral is acute. The angle that makes up the vertex of this quadrilateral is obtuse. The angle that makes up this vertex of this quadrilateral is right.

This parallelogram has two pairs of parallel sides. parallelograms This parallelogram has two pairs of parallel sides.

This rhombus is a parallelogram with 4 congruent sides.

A rectangle is a parallelogram that has four right angles. Rectangles A rectangle is a parallelogram that has four right angles.

A square is a specific case of both a rhombus AND a rectangle, having four right angles and 4 sides of equal length.

Squares A square is a parallelogram with four equal sides and four right angles.

A trapezoid is a quadrilateral that has one pair of parallel sides. Trapezoids A trapezoid is a quadrilateral that has one pair of parallel sides.

Kites A kite is a quadrilateral that has two pair of congruent, adjacent sides. 4 in. 2 in. 2 in. 4 in.

Review: Name that Quadrilateral 1 3 2 kite rhombus rectangle 5 6 4 parallelogram trapezoid square

Interior angles of a quadrilateral always equal 360 degrees 360o - 100o - 95o - 60o = 105o

Find the missing angle measurement Your Turn Find the missing angle measurement 360o - 123o - 90o - 88o = 59o

Your Turn Suppose you are given a quadrilateral with the following angles 120o , 53o , 19o 360o - 120o - 53o - 19o = 168o
