Eligibility Requirements ESL GED-Skill Building Must be 18 years or older. Registration is mandatory Fall, Winter, Spring Reading and Listening test at least twice during the school year. 60 hours in 90 days Serve participants 16+ with or without high school diploma (16 & 17 year olds must have a release from school, parental permission, and interview with program director before enrollment) Orientation is mandatory for ALL Students Must have a valid ID, know their Social Security Number $30 check or money order Scholarships available for enrollment (Everything else is free)

Students reading mainly between 2nd and 10th grade levels. Determined by reading test during orientation. Admissions 3 times per year Fall, Winter and Spring Field trips, guest speakers, conversation groups, computer based practice

Student Stories – MEET YUKI Yuki joined our program in January 2018. She came from Japan. Her spouse was working for Toyota and her family was placed in South Canton. Because of VISA regulations, Yuki was not allowed to work, however, she is a pharmacist by trade. Yuki began in our lower level English course. By the end of her first semester, she has placed into the higher level. She became an integral part of program, and had made many friends by the time she had to return home. She told us that, because of her experiences with ESL class and learning English, she wanted to change her trajectory of her career. Before she even left for home, she decided to quit her job. She is currently working for an American company in Japanese as their translator between pharmaceuticals. She is currently applying to American positions that will allow her to work remotely so that she and her family can continue to travel and she can continue to use her English skills.

Meet Kim GED to WCC Surgical Student Kim is a former student of our program and attended our Harriet Street location. She worked diligently on preparing to take her GED tests while managing many barriers that some would say seemed “impossible”. With the support of the Adult Transitions Pathway team Kim successfully earned her GED and immediately thereafter transitioned into her role as a WCC college student. She continued to be an encourager to the students around her. Kim chose the Health Care track where she studied to become certified in Central Processing Sterilization. Kim is a true example of someone who has utilized the resources she’s received to make life changing decisions. Kim is happily employed at St. Joseph Hospital in the surgical department.
