European Language Portfolio (ELP)

Developed and piloted by the Language Policy Division of the Council of Europe, Strasbourg, from 1998 until 2000 It was launched as a tool to support the development of plurilingualism and pluriculturalism. Plurilingualism: use of many languages by one person Multilingualism: use of many languages in a society

The ELP is a document in which those who are learning or have learned a language - whether at school or outside school - can record and reflect on their language learning and cultural experiences. It is composed of three parts:

Language Passport It is a record of language skills, qualifications and experiences and updated by the owner. It shows the languages in which the holder has some competence. It includes A profile of language skills in relation to the Common European Framework for References (CEFR) A resume of language learning and intercultural experiences A record of certificates and diplomas

Language Biography It helps the holder describe his/her experiences in each language It guides the learner in planning and assessing progress It includes Language learning history Assessing the language learning process Linguistic and intercultural experiences Personal language achievement

Dossier It includes examples of personal work that illustrate the holder’s language competences (certificates, exams, essays, letters, etc.) For Turkish ELP, go to http://adp.meb.gov.tr
