Shark teeth Sharks have an unlimited amount of teeth. Some sharks lose 30,000 or more teeth in their lifetime. Their tooth shape depends on their diet sharks on mollusks and crustaceans have dense flattened teeth to crush their prey, those that feed on fish have razor sharp teeth for gripping and those that feed on larger prey have pointed lower teeth for gripping and triangular upper teeth with serrated edges for cutting. In most species teeth are replaced once at a time, except cookie cutter sharks, the whole row of teeth is replaced. Click to go to picture

Baby Sharks Baby Sharks are called pups. Just like there are many types of sharks, there are different ways that sharks come into this world. There are three ways that sharks are born: Eggs are laid (like birds) Eggs hatch inside the mother and then are born Pups grow inside the mother and then are born.

General Information There are about 400 different types of sharks in the world. Many of them are named after the way they look or where they live. For example, the hammerhead shark has a head shaped like a hammer, the whale shark is as big as a whale; and the reef shark lives on coral reefs. Many of them have very strange shapes which are suited to the way they live. Some look more like sting rays which they are very closely related to. Sharks range from a few centimetres to many meters in length. And they eat all sorts of different food ranging from plankton to fish to larger mammals like seals.
