Presentation transcript:

The Tooth The part you see is called the crown.

The Tooth The rounded high parts are called the cusps.

The Tooth The white covering of the tooth is called enamel.

The Tooth The root is the part holding the teeth in the jawbone. You cant see this part of the tooth.

The inner part of the tooth is made up of two parts. The pulp which holds nerves and blood vessels. And the dentin, a bonelike tissue.

Teeth have different shapes for different jobs. Incisors –There are 8 located in the front of the mouth. –Four on the top and four on the bottom. –They have sharp, chisel-shaped crowns to cut food.

Teeth have different shapes for different jobs. cuspids –The four cuspids are next to the incisors. –They have a pointed edge to tear food.

Teeth have different shapes for different jobs. premolar (also called bicuspids.) –Four pairs of molars (8 teeth) located next to the cuspids. –They crush and tear food.

Taking care of our teeth You should brush your teeth after eating.

Plaque Plaque is a sticky layer of germs that forms on your teeth. Brushing washes it away.

Floss Floss between your teeth to get rid of plaque.

Toothpaste Toothpaste should have fluoride to fight tooth decay.

Tooth decay A hole that forms when tooth enamel is eaten away is called a cavity. This type of tooth decay can be prevented if you brush your teeth.

Eat health snacks Health snacks can help your teeth grow strong and reduce the chance of tooth decay (cavities).

Eat health snacks If you chew gum or sip soda, the sugarless kind is a whole lot better for your teeth.

Dental Care Adults have 32 teeth but children have fewer because they lose baby teeth as adult teeth grow. In addition to chewing, teeth help you speak clearly. Teeth also give your face its shape and add to the way you look.

Visits to the Dentist Regular visits to the dentist are important. The dentist will check for decay. The dentist will make sure the teeth are growing in properly. At the dentist the hygienists will clean your teeth.
