IETF BMWG MPLS TE Scalability and Performance Status and Update Samir Vapiwala (svapiwal@cisco.com) Karu Ratnam (kratnam@cisco.com) Rajiv Papneja (rpapneja@isocore.com) 69th IETF Meeting Chicago

History/Background And Progress So Far Submitted version 00 motivation draft in April 07 Draft-vapiwala-bmwg-TE-convergece-motivation-00.txt Submitted Version 01 motivation draft July 07 Draft-vapiwala-bmwg-rsvpte-convergece-motivation-01.txt

Updates from version-00 of motivation draft Added 2 more test cases for refresh reduction section 4.5 and 4.6. 4.8 and 4.9 sections text are updated for RSVP Authentication Section 4.7 text is updated to remove confusion for fixed # of LSP re-signaling Updated terms and some editorial changes based on comments received So far we have received comments from 5-6 folks (including - Andrey Kiselev, Raveesh Janardan, Aamer Akhter, Esa Salahuddin, Curtis Villamizar), which were incorporated in the latest version that was submitted

Discussions with the classical RSVP benchmarking team A common team formed to discuss the possibility of merging the efforts under one umbrella – Under discussions Handling of methodology draft for classical RSVP and MPLS-TE convergence work item 8-member team created to ensure that all the contribution in the MPLS-TE convergence has been reviewed. Version-00 was submitted following the review from this team. The team comprised of authors of MPLS-TE and classical RSVP folks. The working group needs to agree on how to handle these two separate work items, and if the time is ripe for us to submit a separate terminology document for MPLS-TE convergence and a methodology document

Possible collaboration with GMPLS LSP DPPM draft team The team of GMPLS LSP DPPM draft has shown interest to work with MPLS-TE convergence team Bring LSP DPPM draft to BMWG and possibility of merging the two drafts under either CCAMP or BMWG ? Meeting scheduled amongst authors to discuss possible options on how to move forward

Next step We seek Direction from the WG leadership on investing time in preparing terminology and methodology draft for MPLS TE convergence work. More feedback from the BMWGers Support from the group to accept the MPLS-TE convergence as a work group item

Acknowledgements Thanks to BMWG-ers for support shown in the work item The authors wish to thank the following for their invaluable input to the merged document Curtis Villamizar Andrey Kiselev Raveesh Janardan Arun Gandhi Esa Salahuddin
