Final Exam Reflection IDT3600 SARAH HERBERT

How did my work in this course prepare me to Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity? Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. I chose the technology integration assignment, discussion, and instructional comic to exemplify this standard. Through the tech-integration assignment I was able to: Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. Through the tech-integration discussion, I was able to: Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. Through the instructional comic, I was able to: Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.

Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity The first assignment we had to complete was a technology integration assignment. I chose this assignment to represent and model creative thinking and inventiveness because we look at 2 different schools that use technology in different ways to promote learning. The 2 short videos that we viewed for this assignment modeled creative and innovative thinking when it came to how each school was using technology. This assignment allowed us to make observations of first-hand use of technology in the classroom and forced us to analyze skills that the students were gaining through the use of the various types of technology. This assignment allowed me to see how other teachers facilitate student learning through the use of technology. I was able to promote student reflection and clarify my conceptual understanding and creative processes through the video integration discussion. After completing the worksheet on technology integration, we were asked to post a discussion revealing what technology integration meant to us. Through this discussion, I was able to model my collaborative knowledge that I gained through the viewing of the technology integration videos and through the completion of the technology integration assignment. Through this discussion, I was also able to engage in learning with students and colleagues in a virtual environment. By responding to 2 of my classmates in the discussion board, I was able to reflect on others observations and gain insight into others creative thinking. Through the instructional comic assignment, I was able to model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. For this assignment I virtually constructed a comic using ToonDo that demonstrated my knowledge on turning water into a gas. This assignment helped inspire my learning and creativity through the construction of the comic. I learned how to creatively display my knowledge on a topic through the creation of a virtual comic.

How did my work in this course prepare me to Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments? Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standards. I chose the Mobile learning project, WebQuest assignment, and Graphic organizer assignment to exemplify this standard. Through the mobile learning project, I was able to: Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. Through the WebQuest assignment, I was able to: Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources. Through the Concept Map/Graphic Organizer assignment, I was able to: Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards, and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.

Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experience and Assessments I was able to adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity through the Mobile Learning Project. Through this project, I was able to adapt relevant learning experiences through my cellular device. Through the completion of this assignment, I was able to incorporate contemporary tools (my cellphone) to maximize my content learning. Through the WebQuest assignment, I was able to customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources. This assignment allowed me to customize and personalize my own learning activity. I had to develop digital age learning through the creation of this WebQuest. The Graphic Organizers assignment provided a varied formative/summative assessment aligned with content and technology standards. In this assignment, I got to create a concept map that represented the knowledge that I had on the Earth’s oceans. This assignment maximized content learning by forcing students to customize and personalize learning activities activities to address students’ diverse learning styles. This assignment allowed us “free-reign” to customize our concept map and to show our own diverse learning style through the construction of our map.

How did my work in this course prepare me to Model Digital Age Work and Learning? Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. I chose my field experience reflection paper, my portfolio, and this final exam to represent this standard. Through my field experience reflection paper, I was able to: Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats. Through my portfolio, I was able to: Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning. Through this final exam, I am able to: Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations.

Model Digital Age Work and Learning Through my Field Experience Reflection Paper, I was able to communicate relevant information and ideas effectively using a variety of digital age media and formats. Through my portfolio, I have been able to model digital age work and learning. The portfolio has allowed me to publish all of my work in this course, which allows me to model my digital age work and learning. The production of my portfolio has allowed me to model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning. This final exam allows me to communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats.

How did my work in this course prepare me to Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility? Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. I chose the internet discussion, my field experience, and the presentations assignment to represent this standard. Through the internet discussion, I was able to: Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources. Through my field experience, I was able to: Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information. Through my presentations project, I was able to: Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.

Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility Through the internet reflection discussion, I was able to advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources. This reflection allowed me to express how I would handle a situation where a student was accessing an inappropriate site. In turn, this allowed me to promote digital citizenship responsibility with my peers, and to also see how my classmates’ handle their responsibility to model appropriate digital citizenship. Through Field Experience, I was able to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility to the students’ that I was observing/teaching. Through my lesson, I was able to promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information. I was able to promote responsibility to students through my appropriate actions that I modeled throughout the time that I spent with the students’. Through the Presentations assignment, I was able to promote and model digital citizenship responsibility. This assignment allowed me to create an activity that students would work through. In this assignment, I incorporated the appropriate websites that students would access to complete their work. Through this, I was able to model to students that educationally appropriate sites were/are the most effective when doing their coursework/activity.

How did my work in this course allow me to Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership? Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. I chose collaboration with a partner in field experience, the second lesson plan, and the discussion board to represent this standard. Through collaboration with a partner in field experience, I was able to: Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others. Through the discussion board, I was able to: Participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning. Through my second lesson plan, I was able to: Contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community.

Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership Through the collaborating with a partner in Field Experience, I was able to engage in professional growth and leadership. Having a teaching-partner in Field Experience allowed me to exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others. Through the discussion board, I’ve been able to participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning. Through the second lesson plan, I was able to engage in professional growth and leadership. Through the second lesson plan, I was able to improve my lesson planning and reflect on my growth from the first lesson plan.
