What is malaria? One of the most serious diseases on earth as it kills more than a million people every year.

What organisms is responsible? 4 different species of the sporozoan, P. vivax, P.falciparum, P.ovale and P. malariae

How is the malaria parasite transmitted? From one person to another via a FEMALE Anapheles mosquito that often breeds in standing water and is most active at night.

Symptoms Headache Fever Sweating Chills Muscular pains Abdominal pain Diarrhoea Nausea and vomiting Loss of appetite cough

How can the disease be prevented? Netting Screens and repellents Remain indoors at night Anti malaria medicine Insecticides (DDT)

How can the disease be treated? Non-severe malaria is treated with oral quinine or antibiotics. Severe malaria is treated with intravenous quinine
