MADAGASCAR  Surveys/Tests  “10% of the people they(the researchers) tested who had vivax malaria were “Duffy-negative,” meaning they lack the Duffy proteins on the surface of their red blood cells to which vivax malaria parasites attach.”...confusing?  EVOLVING!  People that were Duffy-negative were thought to be nearly immune to malaria  95% of Africans are Duffy-negative

5. 2 MAJOR TYPES OF MALARIA Vivax Malaria  Not as lethal as Falciparum Malaria  Harder to cure Falciparum Malaria  Caused by a different parasite  Not affected by Duffy proteins  Kills about 650,000 people per year, mostly in Africa

6. FEARS COMING INTO REALITY  Is vivax evolving into a falciparum-like parasites?  From research:  No obvious mutations or abnormalities.
