The King gave land to the Barons and Bishops. The Peasants (about 1.5m) obeyed their Lord. Worked on his land for him. Paid their taxes. The Barons and Bishops (about 300) promised loyalty to the King. The Barons would give Knights for the army for 40 days a year. The Barons would control and tax local people. The Barons gave land to their Knights and promised them protection and justice. The Knights (about 4000) promised loyalty to their Baron. They gave land to peasants and promised them protection and justice.
