The Transcontinental Railroad Many people believed that the best way to link east and west would be to build a transcontinental railroad across the continent .The central pacific began building east from Sacramento , California.

The Gold Rush A special gold spike was made to symbolize. Traveling across the continent took months and cost about 1,000.

Cowboys By the end of the civil war ,there were five million head of cattle in Teaxs.in the east cattle cost 40.

Effects of the Railroads and Gold Rush People came to the gold rush and took a lot of the gold so there was not a lot of gold left . thousands of people went to the gold rush.
