Suggestions on Taking Text Notes

Take notes on what you read! A. Recall the key questions: Who, What, When, Where, How, why? B. Textbooks have built in structures: Headings, subheadings, bolded terms, etc. Use them! C. Textbooks have websites with prepared outlines: APG: http://www.wwnorton.com/college/polisci/wtp5e/

Taking Text Notes D. Download notes, and key terms review sheet READ THEM FIRST, then read assignment. If you use these notes as your own – ANNOTATE THEM. This means underline key things in them as your read, add your own notes, etc. In short, make them YOUR notes.

Don't fall behind in textbook reading! Read a little every night, take what notes you can. Some are always better than none. Use the pre-written notes as you read. If you don't understand , ask about it ASAP!

Don't just skip over words/terms you don't understand Re-read, break out a dictionary, check context, ask the teacher! Same thing in class. If he or she says something that confuses you - GET UNCONFUSED ASAP!
