Sistine Chapel Michelangelo’s most famous work was the Sistine Chapel Michelangelo did not want to paint the Sistine Chapel because he considered himself a sculptor rather than a painter. He was paid $78,000 in todays money, which was a lot of money at this time.

Sistine Chapel The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel is 68 feet tall, which would be approximately as high as if your school had four floors instead of two! Michelangelo and his assistants used a wooden scaffolding which allowed them to stand upright and reach above their heads. Michelangelo designed the unique system of platforms which were attached to the wall.
