North By Northwest

Cultural Context During the film it can be seen that social standards were held up in the film. We can see that men are still in grey suits and women are still in charge of the household. It can been seen in this shot right here because the main character is in a grey suit. It shows that Alfred Hitchcock took social aspects from the time period to the film.

Still Image Framing: The framing shows Robert Thornhill in a closed frame. This represents that he is stuck in his situation. That being he can’t escape the plane that is after him because of mistaken identity and that this won’t end till he figures out who is hunting him.

Still Image (cont) Location: The scene locations is not the norm because it uses a wide open area to create a scene of suspense and danger. Hitchcock did this because he did not want to be cliche like everyone else in how they created the feelings and in the long run it became cliche to try avoiding to be cliche because future directors started using his style.
