Density
What is density? the amount of mass that is “squished” into the amount of volume OR the amount of stuff that is held inside a certain amount of space
Formula Density = mass/volume OR d = m/v
Let’s Practice 1. Calculate the density of a brass cube. The mass is 129.2 g and the volume is 15.63 cm3.
Let’s Practice 2. 83.0 mL of an unknown liquid is in a graduated cylinder. The mass of the liquid was measured to be 23.2 g. What is the density of the liquid?
Let’s Practice 3. A small block has a mass of 45.6 g and the volume was measured to be 20.8 mL. What is the density?
Let’s Practice 4. What would happen to the density if we took this same block and made it larger so that it took up more space? **Mass = 45.6 g but the volume is now 32.8 mL.
Let’s Practice 5. What would happen to the density if we took the same block and made it smaller so that it took up less space? **Mass = 45.6 g but the volume is now 12.0 mL.
Less Dense or More Dense?
