Gallup Student Poll Results Fall 2017 POP Luncheon January 16, 2018

Hope: The ideas and energy students have for the future I know I will graduate from high school I can think of many ways to get good grades I can find many ways around problems I have a mentor who encourages my development I know I will find a good job in the future I have many goals I have a great future ahead of me In addition to individual items being evaluated, an overall Index of Hope is created

Engagement: The involvement in and enthusiasm for school I have a best friend at school I feel safe in this school My teachers make me feel my school work is important At this school, I get to do what I do best every day In the last seven days, someone has told me I have done good work at school I have fun at school In the last seven days, I have learned something interesting at school The adults at my school care about me I have at least one teacher who makes me excited about the future In addition to individual items being evaluated, an overall Index of Engagement is created

Additions to the Gallup Student Poll in 2015 Entrepreneurial Aspiration: The talent and energy for building businesses that survive, thrive and employ others I will invent something that changes the world I plan to start my own business I am learning how to start and run a business I have my own business now Career/Financial Literacy: The information, attitudes and behaviors that students need to practice for healthy participation in the economy I have a paying job now I am learning how to save and spend money I have a bank account with money in it I am involved in at least one activity, such as a club, music, sports or volunteering

Polling Process - DVUSD Polling period was Sept. 26 to Oct. 27 Monday – Friday each week Poll was taken on-line at the schools Grades 5 – 12 were asked to complete the poll 19,569 students took the poll  95% Financial Impact The poll is provided free of charge by Gallup

The percent of students Engaged and Hopeful are used in the District Balanced Scorecard. In addition, we use student perception of safety. This specific item is one I look at every year. Important to us as a district. One of the measures for a KSO. One of the measures for Key Strategic Objective 1.2.2 Provide a safe and orderly environment.

Next Steps Continue to work on student’s perceptions of safety. Incorporate social emotional learning goals into the new strategic plan. Encourage parent organization members to talk with their principal about social emotional learning and the student poll results. Interactive results doc on the Portal
