Covered Wagon Insert Artifact Picture Here The covered wagon was used to haul the possessions of the families that headed west on the Oregon Trail. It will hold about a ton and a half of supplies or about 3000 lbs. It takes about 6 or more oxen to pull one wagon. The wagon had to be waterproof tight as to protect the items carried along the trail. It had a white covering called a bonnet. When the wagon train traveled along the trail, it was said to have looked like a Prairie Schooner traveling across the ocean. Back to Lobby
