MIDI LEARNING AIMS: To understand the development and protocol of MIDI system.

What are the components of a MIDI system? Software Instruments Sequencers MIDI Messages QUESTION: WHAT DOES MIDI STAND FOR? - MIDI stands for “Musical Instrument Digital Interface”

CONNECTORS USED FOR MIDI In MIDI, we have two types of connector cable: 5 pin din USB

TASK WHAT REVOLUTION DID MIDI CREATE? WHAT ERA WAS MIDI CREATED? READ AND WATCH THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20425376) AND ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: WHAT REVOLUTION DID MIDI CREATE? WHAT ERA WAS MIDI CREATED?

WHY USE MIDI? One of the prime reasons that many recording artist, studios etc… Adopted MIDI was because of the ability to associate different sounds to an instrumental part and then layer up to 16 different instruments.

INTERFACES AND PATHS A typical MIDI device provides MIDI jacks, or “ports,” into which you can pluga MIDI cable’s connector. There are three types of MIDI ports, and a device may offer one, two, or all three, depending on what the device does: MIDI IN—A MIDI IN jack receives MIDI data from some other MIDI device. MIDI OUT—A MIDI OUT jack sends MIDI data produced by the device out to another MIDI device. MIDI THRU—A device’s MIDI IN port receives MIDI data and passes it back out unchanged through the MIDI THRU port.
