Christians follow Jesus Christ in everything and in every way. Christians gain strength in overcoming temptation to sin by observing how their Lord overcame His temptations. One of the greatest passages that helps Christians in this area is Matt. 4:1-11.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. Matt 4:1-2

And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” Matt 4:3

But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’” Matt 4:4 Holy Bible

Then the devil took Him into the holy city; and he had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God throw Yourself down; for it is written, 'He will give His angels charge concerning You'; and 'On their hands they will bear You up, lest You strike Your foot against a stone.’” Matt 4:5-6

Jesus said to him, "On the other hand, it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Matt 4:7

Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory; and he said to Him, "All these things will I give You, if You fall down and worship me.” Matt 4:8-9

Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.'" Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him. Matt 4:10-11

Jesus Christ shows us how to overcome temptation. We need to confront each temptation just like our Lord did, with a “It is written…” Holy Bible For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Heb 4:15
