I want you to think of cookies…Yummy! What is your favorite kind of cookie? Type your answers in the chat box  Hopefully, one of the students will write chocolate chip cookies. Infrom the students that we will be using chocolate chip cookies for the first part of class today 

What’s Multiplication??? Shhhhhhh……it is repeated addition!

Multiplication is repeated addition Multiplication is repeated addition. Let’s take a look at what a simple multiplication problem would look like using chocolate chip cookies. 3 x 4=_____ “groups of” Explain that the first number (or smaller number) is the amount of circles or “cookies” the students need to draw. The second number will be the number of chocolate chips on the cookie. Use the tools to draw the chips on the brown circles.

Let’s try this one… 4 x 5=_____ “groups of”

Let’s try this one… 2 x 7=_____ “groups of”

Let’s try this one… 5 x 3 =_____ Have the students volunteer to start the drawing from scratch.

Let’s try this one… 5 x 6 =_____ Have the students volunteer to start the drawing from scratch.
