INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE RESEARCH OVERVIEW OF EU INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE RESEARCH Main objectives of first EC International Cooperation activities: Promoting sustainable development and generating S&T research partnerships. 1983 (1st FP): Involvement of third countries on health and agriculture Target countries with economic agreements with the then European Community (EC): Latin America, Asia, and the Mediterranean, based on bilateral S&T dialogue over a broad range of topics prioritised country by country

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE RESEARCH OVERVIEW OF EU INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE RESEARCH 1992 (3rd FP) Combined thematic and geographic approaches: Developing countries (DEV), Mediterranean partner countries (MED), Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC), Newly Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union, and non-European industrialised Favoured projects on themes related to global development: Health,agriculture, energy, and natural resources management.
