Combining Like Terms

Vocabulary In a term with a number and a variable, the number is called the coefficient. Example: 2X + 4Y3 Which number is the coefficient of X?

Vocabulary Like terms have the same variable raised to the same power. Example: 5X and -4X 2Y2 and Y2

Like Terms 3X2 +4X+8-7x2 3X2 and -7x2 are like terms. Name the like terms in the expression. -2Y2 +5X-3+1x

Combine Like Terms First identify the like terms. 8X2-2X+5X-4 Next combine them. 8X2+3X-4
