1 10.1 Simplifying Algebraic Expressions

2 Vocabulary Equivalent Expressions: Expressions that have the same value. Term: Parts of an algebraic expression excluding the operation signs. Coefficient: The numerical factor of a term that contains a variable. Like Terms: Contain the same variable, such as 2x and x.

3 Constant: A term without a variable.
Simplest Form: An algebraic expression is in its simples form if it has no like terms and no parenthesis. Simplifying the Expression: You can use the Distributive Property to combine like terms.

4 Use the Distributive Property to rewrite each expression
4(x+7) (y+2)5 6(a +4) (n+3)8 -2(x+1) 3(x+8)

5 6(p-5) -2(x-8) 3(y-10) -7(w-4) (n-2)(-9) -6(g-2)

6 Identify Parts of an Expression
Identify the like terms, coefficients, and constants in the expression. 6n-7n-4+n 3x x 9y-4-11y n-2n-3+n 8a+4-6a-5a d-8+d
