MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE

Areas surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, California, in parts of Western and South Australia, in southwestern South Africa and in parts of central Chile

Climate encompasses the temperatures, humidity, rainfall, and wind in a given region over long periods of time, as opposed to the term weather, which refers to current activity.

At least we don’t have to deal with this PRECIPITATION At least we don’t have to deal with this

Precipitation is any product of the condensation of atmospheric water vapor that is deposited on the earth's surface, i.e., rain, snow, sleet or hail

One way to analyze precipitation is by creating a precipitation graph

You will create four precipitation graphs.

Average precipitation for 30 years ORLANDO, FL Average precipitation for 30 years Jan=2.5 Feb=3.0 Mar=3.0 Apr=2.5 May=4.0 Jun=7.0 Jul=7.5 Aug=7.0 Sep=6.0 Oct=2.5 Nov=2.0 Dec=2.0

How is our precipitation graph different then the other three graphs?

The wet winter/dry summer seasonality of precipitation is the defining characteristic of this climate. Summer drought places a great deal of stress on the local vegetation, but plant structures have evolved to adapt to it
