Presentation transcript:

@primaryteachew TOP TIP: First find out what the scale goes up in. To find out how many more children, we can find the difference using subtraction. 110 - 90 = We know that these two boxes are don’t walk to school. Altogether, how many children don’t walk to school? How many more Year 6 children than Year 2 children walk to school?

TOP TIP: First, write the number you are given in WORDS into NUMBERS. 907 Now, we need to MULTIPLY this number by 10! The place value of each digit gets 10 TIMES BIGGER.

What knowledge do we need to use to help us? 9 x ? = 63 9 x ? = 54 What knowledge do we need to use to help us? What do we already know? TOP TIP: Look at the facts you ALREADY know, before you fill in the other boxes! So, now I know…… I know….

This is the height we are comparing the mountains to. First we must add these two numbers together. Then we FIND THE DIFFERENCE with Mount Everest. TOP TIP: ALWAYS show your working out when you see one of these boxes!

We are adding 1000 to get to this number. So what must we be doing to get to this number? TOP TIP: Think about the PLACE VALUE of the original number. You are ADDING or SUBTRACTING 1000 - the other place values will stay the same!

TOP TIP: Look at each value in turn TOP TIP: Look at each value in turn. First the ONES then the TENTHS then the HUNDREDTHS then the THOUSANDTHS.

What do we know which will help us? TOP TIP: 24 hours in ONE DAY. 7 days in ONE WEEK. 12 months in ONE YEAR. What calculation do we need to do? MULTIPLICATION - will our times tables help us?

First, we need to add these two numbers together. Now, we take this number away! Again, we are FINDING THE DIFFERENCE.

6 8 9 16 ¾ of a number means Denominator: DIVIDE into 4 Numerator: FIND 3 parts ¾ of 8 = ¾ of 6 = ¾ of 9 = ¾ of 16 6 8 9 16

84,520 84,500 85,000 TOP TIP: 5 and above - ROUND UP 4 and below - ROUND DOWN

1000g TOP TIPS: How many grams are in 1kg? We need to do: 40 x 3 THEN add on 20 100 - 20 = 80 How many 40 goes into 80? DIVIDE!

TOP TIP: A vertice is: Where two edges meet (a corner). If I know a cube has 8 then I know...

Top Tip: We are FINDING THE DIFFERENCE again! Before we start: How many steps is this problem going to be? What do we need to do? 1: 12 x 99p = 2. £10.49 - Top Tip: We are FINDING THE DIFFERENCE again!

⅔ of the seeds have grown. So 12 is ⅔ of _________.

Top Tip: Hopefully, the dates you see on the board every day will help with this! M = 1000 V = 5 I = 1

Think about your angle knowledge... So I know: Half a turn must be________ degrees. 1 turn of a somersault is ______________ degrees. Top Tip: Think about your angle knowledge...

Top Tip: We spoke about what a vertice is earlier, remember? What do we know already?

TOP TIP: THERE ARE 24 HOURS IN A DAY! Use the example which is already here to help you! TOP TIP: THERE ARE 24 HOURS IN A DAY!

Take away the change, from the £20. 2) Now, divide your answer into 3.

What is 0.25 as a fraction? What is 2/5 as a decimal? OR

If 20km = 1cm, I know 10km = __________ So, 250km = 25 x _________.

This uses ratio. We don’t have to count the diagonal length - the scale changes across the triangle. Base of triangle A = Base of triangle B = 2:8

Top Tip: ¼ + ⅙ = We need to make the denominator equivalent.
