History Through Cinema Final Project

Objective: You will choose a movie that defines the decade it was created in and the generation it was intended for Examples: - Rebel Without a Cause – 1950s youth rebellion - Easy Rider – late 1960s hippie/counterculture - Saturday Night Fever – the 1970s disco era - Wall Street – 1980s yuppie, “greed is good” generation - Reality Bites – 1990s grunge, college youth You will present this project to the class in a 5 – 7 minute presentation (yes, you will be timed!) You may use PowerPoint, Google Presentations, Prezi You must include a clip (no longer than one minute) from your movie that you think epitomizes the main idea behind the movie You must include TWO examples supported by RESEARCH (including CITATIONS) that back your reasoning why the movies defines that generation; what are the themes found in the movie and how do those themes describe the decade the movie was created in

Format: Slide 1 – Your movie and a picture of your movie poster ; your name Slide 2 – Summarize the plot of the movie very briefly Slide 3 - Explain to the class why you chose that movie; explain the decade it was created in and what was going on in the country in that decade Slide 4/5 – Example #1 of how the movie defines the generation (include citations from your research) Slide 6/7 – Example #2 of how the movie defines the generation (include citations from your research) Slide 8 – Video Clip (no more than 1 minute; movieclips.com is a great resource to find clips) Slide 9 – Works Cited Page

Due Dates: I need 5 volunteers to go Friday, May 15th (as in one week from today!)  The rest of you will go Wednesday, May 20th Today: If you haven’t picked the movie, you need to by the end of today’s class Start researching the decade the movie was made in Watch the movie over the weekend Next week you will be spending class creating your final presentation…presentations begin Friday
