Self-Assessment Comes First: Introducing CareerLeader TM

Indecision Most graduate business students (over 80%) do not have a clear career direction when they arrive to business school. This is okay. You came to Thunderbird to expand horizons and learn about possibilities. BUT… Time is critical. The earlier you focus the better your career search results and success. Your course selection, networking, interviewing and self-marketing will all benefit from an early start.

You are a unique product There are no pre-packaged careers: You are a unique person and will build a unique career. Beware of career “herd” mentality; it is present at every graduate business program. Understand your own personality, motivations, reward values and skills. This is essential to developing your unique career path.

What is CareerLeader ? CareerLeader is a sophisticated, interactive business career self-assessment program Developed from over 15 years of research by career psychologists at Harvard Business School Based on three inventories measuring deeply embedded life interests, work reward values and business skills Provides an interpretive report based on all three inventories with suggestions for best match with various MBA career paths

CareerLeader features CareerLeader provides information on: Your match with entrepreneurial cultures How to analyze company cultures to determine fit Your career “Achilles’ Heels” and what to do about them Your business skill weaknesses and what to do about them Over 25 major graduate business career paths: what they are and who enjoys and succeeds in them

CareerLeader is state of the art Used by the top 100 business schools Continually revised based on new research Developed specifically for business professionals

How do I use CareerLeader ? Go to Thunderbird’s CareerLeader homepage (from the New Student page on my|Thunderbird) Enter the school’s user name and password Create your own individual account name The program is user-friendly, and will guide you step-by-step through the process

What is the process? Take the three CareerLeader assessment inventories (not all at once) Review and print your personalized Interpretive Report Summary Read about your suggested career paths in the CareerLeader “Profiles” section.

What are the three tests? Business Career Interest Inventory (BCII) Measures your deeply embedded life interests as they apply to business Management and Professional Reward Profile (MPRP) Identifies the work rewards that are most important to you Management and Professional Ability Profile (MPAP) Identifies business skill strengths and weaknesses

Putting it all together The Interpretive Report Summary integrates all three tests by: Discussing the business roles and work environments that will be most satisfying to you Showing the business career paths that are the top matches for your overall profile

Beyond the tests Explore the interactive interpretive guides for each of the three inventories Learn how to use your profile to find the best company culture for you Read “How to Select an Industry and Find the Best Job within the Best Company” Read about your career “Achilles’ Heels”

We look forward to seeing you! Your next steps Research the markets in which you have interest, and identify your goals Attend the Career Management sessions of Foundations Week to discuss career management planning We look forward to seeing you!
