Summer Dissertation Proposal Workshop Charles L. Betsey Professor Emeritus Howard University

Welcome Why a Dissertation Proposal Workshop? Effort to increase pool of poverty researchers from underrepresented minorities Small numbers of underrepresented minorities completing doctoral degrees ABD stage and its pitfalls

PhD Completion Study Multi-year study by the Council of Graduate Schools of several cohorts of entering graduate students at a number of U.S. and Canadian research universities found 10-year completion rates of about 50% among social science disciplines completion rates are: higher in the physical and life sciences than in the social sciences and humanities; higher for men than for women; higher for majority than for minority students; higher in smaller than in larger doctoral programs.
