1. Introduction RMS Restaurant Management Systems are the crucial technology components that enable a single outlet or enterprise to better serve its customers and aid employees with food and beverage transactions and controls. The interview at the beginning of the chapter makes reference to technology tools being developed or introduced in 2002 and 2003. Many technologies have advanced or obsolesced in that time, such as Windows CE mentioned in the interview. Restaurant Management Systems are but aids to the flesh and blood managers that make day to day decisions. When implemented and used properly RMS tools are powerful and effective tools. RMS: POS Definition: A point of sale system is either a stand-alone machine or a network of input and output devices used by restaurant employees to accomplish their daily activities including food and beverage orders, transmission of tasks to the kitchen and other remote areas, guest-check settlement, credit card transaction processing, and charge posting folios.
