Presentation transcript:

Child disclosure “They shout all the time. Fighting and shouting and stuff. He was shouting on the way back from the club yesterday too. Mum was upset this morning. Crying and that. Had a cut on her face. He’d been going on about me losing and needing to get a better coach. He hit her I reckon. I wish he’d go. Me and my sister want him to go. Sometimes he hits her too. She’s only little, so can’t hit the ball as well as me yet. People ask about the bruises, he says she fell over in training because she’s too slow. It makes me wanna hit him back. Sometimes I shout at him, tell him we’re both trying hard. He don’t take that well. He’ll be real angry if he finds out I told. You won’t tell no-one will you?”

Adult at Risk “I was down at the club on Saturday for a session with my coach Sam. She showed me a new drill where I had to hit the ball over the net to the box on the left side. I think Sam thought it would be easy for me to hit the same shot over and over but it wasn’t. Even though I got the ball over the net it didn’t always go where she wanted. At one point she got really annoyed and shouted “Jesus Christ Jack, can’t you just get it into the left hand box? It’s like teaching a bloody 6 year old!” After the lesson I heard her complaining to another coach that I was too difficult to work with. That even something so simple was really difficult to get me to do and that’s why people like me are frustrating. I feel really embarrassed, maybe I should just change clubs. Would that be best?”
