Hydrogenation Reactions on Palladium Involving Subsurface Hydride Paul S. Weiss California NanoSystems Institute and Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, UCLA stm@ucla.edu | http://www.nano.ucla.edu/ Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy are used to understand the interactions and hydrogenation reactions of heterocycles with subsurface hydride on Pd Simultaneously acquired STM images and differential conductance maps of thiophene on Pd{110} yield molecular locations and orientations, as well as key surface electronic perturbations The resulting intermolecular potentials can be determined by measuring thousands of intermolecular separations
