Lesson 3 (Writing Equations from Tables) How can you write an equation from a table? What does m represent? For linear equations, look for a pattern. Must be in y=mx+b format. If it needs to be in functional notation, replace y= with f(x)= m represents slope. To find this value, look for the common difference in y values.

Lesson 3 (Writing Equations from Tables) What does b represent? B represents the y intercept. To find this value, look to see what needs to be added or subtracted to get to first value in table.

Lesson 3 (Writing Equations from Tables) Example 1 Given the following table representing pizza prices, write an equation to represent the same information. Number of toppings Total Price 1 $9.00 2 $11.50 3 $14.00 4 $16.50

Lesson 3 (Writing Equations from Tables) Example 2 The following table represents corsage prices. Write an equation to represent the information. Number of Flowers Total Price 1 $3.85 2 $5.60 3 $7.35 4 $9.10

Lesson 3 (Writing Equations from Tables) Always make sure when finding the pattern, x values are increasing by 1. x y 1 11 3 15 5 19 7 23

Lesson 3 (Writing Equations from Tables) How do you find an equation from a table on the calculator? 1. Input table (STAT, EDIT) 2. Go back to STAT, this time arrow over to CALC 3. For linear equations, hit #4, press ENTER 4. Make sure to write in form y=mx+b
