Outline Overview of the issue Patient perspectives Innovations and developments Hopes for political commitments

“ those wishing to move beyond political promises and to successful public health action should look to South Africa. There, in the context of one of the most devastating RR-TB epidemics in the world, is an exemplary model of how lives can be saved when person-centred policies are coupled with brave acts and visionary leadership.”

Thank you Rapid progress in new innovations for TB ‘Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.’ Warren Buffet Rapid progress in new innovations for TB Rapid TB diagnostics are increasing diagnosis of TB and drug resistance patterns Safe, less toxic, and effective DR-TB drugs – yet poor uptake at country level Essential component of improving DR-TB outcomes Programmatic data shows DT-TB outcomes can be changed dramatically Take lessons learned to improve access to diagnostics/therapeutics under human right to health and science Need for strong political commitment and advocacy for increased, sustained TB funding To expand the diagnostic and treatment pipeline and support timely access To ensure the fragile gains in improving DR-TB treatment are strengthened Thank you
