Souvenir Prices Anna Howard St. Stephens High School WeShare Project 2011 Spain and France

Getting Started ~ My Question How do the prices of souvenirs differ among the cities and countries I am visiting? Places to compare: Spain and France In Spain, compare between Madrid and Barcelona. Control Variable: I will only be comparing the prices of POSTCARDS and T-SHIRTS in order to stay consistent in what is being compared.

Research Prior to Departure After researching on various websites about the economies in Spain and France, I expect to find cheaper souvenirs in Spain. Spain is currently undergoing some financial instability and difficulties. Therefore, the value of the Euro is weaker compared to other countries that are thriving and surviving much better than Spain. France is considered to be a major economic power of the world and the value of the Euro is much stronger. WHY???

Comparison Graphs

Results Based upon the data collected and the graphs, Barcelona has the highest souvenir prices among the three cities. Second and third place differ between Madrid and Paris with Madrid having more expensive t-shirts, but cheaper postcards than Paris.

My Reaction The results from my research and observations were actually the opposite of what I expected to find. Due to the fact that Spains economy is more unstable than Frances, I was looking to find cheaper souvenirs in Spain. In reality, I found the cheaper souvenirs to be located in the Paris stores. ~ Lets just say that my family souvenirs all came from France!

Other Travelers Reactions To look further into my question, I asked a few travelers, also on the trip, to discover their reactions to the costs of souvenirs found among the different cities. When asked the following two questions; (1)Where did you find cheaper souvenirs? (2)Was this what you expected coming into the trip? …these were the responses I received:

Sarah K. 1.France 2.I took French all through high school and based on what I knew about France, I thought things in France would be more expensive. I definitely expected the cheaper souvenirs to be in Spain and was surprised when they were not. (1)Where did you find cheaper souvenirs? (2)Was this what you expected coming into the trip?

Olivia B. 1.France 2. I seriously thought Spain would be cheaper. Id just heard from other people to expect France to be more expensive. I guess they were wrong. (1)Where did you find cheaper souvenirs? (2)Was this what you expected coming into the trip?

Daniel A. 1.France 2.Nope. I heard Spain was going to be cheaper. (1)Where did you find cheaper souvenirs? (2)Was this what you expected coming into the trip?

Tate W. 1.France 2.I kind of thought so. France has so many tourists that I figured they would have some pretty cheap souvenirs. (1)Where did you find cheaper souvenirs? (2)Was this what you expected coming into the trip?
