Index Laws Objectives: B Grade Use Index Laws for positive and negative powers

Index Laws Use the index laws to calculate: x 2 x 4 = x(2-4) = x-2 What does this mean? x × x x × x × x × x In full this looks like: x × x x × x × x × x 1 x2 Simplify = x-2 = 1 x2 So x-y = 1 xy This result can be generalised for all negative indices
