What is a summary? A paragraph that explains the plot of a book, movie, show, etc..

A summary may include: Who? What? When? Where? Why ? How? These 6 things are the basic things we ask in any situation where we are gathering information.

A short summary example: Life of Pi by: Yann Martel Life of Pi is about a young boy who got stranded in the middle of the ocean after the ship that he was traveling on from India to Canada sank. He spent many months floating in the sea with a tiger, zebra, hyena and orangutan on the life boat with him. On this journey Pi struggles to find the will to survive and to find God.

What is an analysis? Is breaking down the information we get from the summary to explain it more.

An analysis may include: In-depth detail about the main character or characters. Why the plot is what it is. More about the time period. Location details. How everything came to the way it is. What will happen in the end.

A short analysis example: Life of Pi by: Yann Martel In the book Life of Pi we meet a young boy named Pi who lives in a small town in India. He grew up like any normal Hindu Indian boy except for the fact that his family owned the town zoo. One day Pi starts to struggle with his religion and decides to look into other religions as well. Pi then claims himself a Christian, a Hindu and Islamic. After some political issues in India Pi’s father is forced to sell the zoo and animals and move to Canada. On the journey to Canada the ship they are on sinks and Pi is left as the only survivor. On his life boat with him he has a tiger named Richard Parker, a hyena, a zebra and an orangutan. This is a story about survival, trust and finding where God is in the hard times.
