What the Parties Say – Race and Immigration General Election 2010 What the Parties Say – Race and Immigration

The Conservative Party – Race and Immigration Only people who will make things better (because of their job skills) will be allowed to come to live in the UK. People who want to come to live in the UK will earn points and not be allowed to live here unless they get the right amount. Limit the number of people coming to live in the UK. Set up a Border Police Force with the power to stop, search, put people into prison / camps and take people to court. When new countries join the European Union, people from them will NOT be allowed to come and live in the UK for a period of time afterwards. Money will not be given to groups who only work with certain races or religions. It will go to people who do good things for the whole community. Offer English language teaching for all.

The Liberal Democrats– Race and Immigration Create a National Border Force and keep a closer eye on who enters and leaves the UK. Make sure that different parts of the country are getting enough money to help them help people who come to live in the UK. Make sure that every country in Europe uses the same system to let people from outside Europe come and live here. Make companies pay a tax for non-European workers and use the money to help British workers get more skilled. Make it easier for people who have lived in the UK for 10 years to become citizens. Make sure that everyone (British-born and non-British born) has the same chance of getting a council house. Set up an group who will make decisions on who can settle in the UK quicker and less expensively. When people apply for jobs, a name will not appear so that people are not treated unfairly because of their background.

The Green Party – Race and Immigration Stop putting people who want to live in the UK in detention camps when they arrive. Allow asylum-seekers to work. Ensure that people who want to be a refugee in the UK are dealt with quickly and fairly, within 3 months, (and if it takes longer, they will be allowed to have equal access to public services until a decision is made). Give asylum-seekers full welfare benefits. Ensure that the courts do not engage in treat people from different backgrounds differently. Make sure that in jobs where there are fewer people of certain races increase the numbers of people from different backgrounds.

UKIP – Race and Immigration Stop anyone from abroad coming to live in the UK for 5 years. Send three-times more people back to their own countries when they have come to the UK without permission to. People who do not have somewhere to live will not be given a visa to live in the UK. Nobody who works in a public place (e.g. hospitals, schools or councils) will be allowed to cover their faces. People will not be allowed to cover their faces in any public building. Private companies will be allowed to ban people who work for them from covering their faces.
