Jesus, Head of the Church

What Jesus said about the church: Mt. 16:16-19

The church is built on the truth that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.

He is the One who builds the church, and the church must be built on Him.

The gates of hell cannot overcome the church The gates of hell cannot overcome the church. The church is to storm the gates of hell and rescue people.

The church has the keys to the kingdom The church has the keys to the kingdom. We carry out the orders that have been decided by God.

The church has been given two major assignments:

To do the same kind of work Jesus was anointed to do…

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18 (Isa.61:1)

2. To help fellow church members be edified and engaged in ministry to each other and the world.

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4: 11-12)
