Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. Hebrews 1:1-4

1st Big Idea If you want to know who God is and what he is like… Jesus is teaching us who God is and what God is like. If you want to know who God is and what he is like… you must look at Jesus Christ God’s Son!

The Son is the exact, perfect representation of God to humanity. Who is God and what is he like? The Son is the exact, perfect representation of God to humanity.

Next Big Question Who is Jesus to God and who is God to Jesus? Hebrews 1:2 – God has spoken to us by his Son. Hebrews 1:5 - “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son” Jesus is the perfect representation of God to humanity, and he has come to us as a Son, while God is to him a father.

Jesus teaches us how to relate to God. 2nd Big Idea Jesus teaches us how to relate to God.

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Luke 3:21-22

But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:6-8

How Are We to Relate to God? We are to relate to God as a child to a father, as God is our perfect Father who loves his children.

No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

No one comes to the Father except through me No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? John 14:9

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. Galatians 4:4-7
