1 Praying Like Jesus Luke 11:1-4

2 Requirements of Godly Prayer

3 Do not be like the Hypocrites
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. Matthew 6:5

4 Do not be like the Hypocrites
6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Matthew 6:6

5 Do not be like the Heathens
7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Matthew 6:7

6 Do not be like the Heathens
8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. Matthew 6:8

7 Keeping Prayer Godly 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

8 What we can learn from Christ’s “Model” Prayer.

9 Christ taught the Disciples how to Pray
1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” Luke 11:1

10 Jesus’s example 2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Luke 11:2

11 Jesus’s example 15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. John 14:15

12 Jesus’s example 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. Luke 11:3

13 Jesus’s example 4 And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Luke 11:4a

14 Jesus’s example And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.” Luke 11:4b

15 Lessons for us today.

16 The Lord hears the prayers of the saints.
15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 1 John 5:15

17 The Lord hears the prayers of the saints.
1. Christ’s prayer honored God because it acknowledged who He is and that He is holy. 2. This was done BEFORE any request by man was made.

18 Conclusion 1. When we approach God in prayer we need to make sure it is done in an way that is appropriate. 2. We make prayer a mockery if we do not remember with whom we are communicating with.
